OVER 2,000 RESIDENTS in Dinas town, this province are now enjoying the all-weather farm-to-market roads (FMRs) and post harvest facilities totaling P12,420,000 and whose bulk of appropriation was given by the Department of Agriculture (DA).
DA Regional Executive Director Oscar O. Parawan formally turned-over the eight projects to Dinas Mayor, Wilfredo Asoy, Sr. at the town’s gym last June 29 as follows: three FMRs, a corn-on-cob dryer, two units flatbed dryers and two units multi-purpose drying pavement (MPDP).
Based on a counter parting scheme, both the municipal and barangay LGUs chipped in a total amount of P535,000 to realize these projects which amounting to P12,420,000, which have encouraged farmers to produce more corn and other crops toward improving their standard of living.
Prior to the turn-over ceremony, Parawan and Asoy visited the eight barangays directly benefiting the projects. Together with other DA personnel and Dinas officials, they traversed the three FMRs that connect the barangays of Sumpotan-Kinakap; Kinakap-Legarda Uno and Tarakan-Nian-Guinicolalay covering a 10 kilometer stretch funded by DA’s Support to Emergency and Livelihood Assistance Program (SELAP) and Zamboanga Peninsula Integrated Agricultural Development Program (ZIADP).
ZIADP funded the construction of two MPDPs at the Old Mirapao and Legarda Uno while the Bureau of Postharvest Research & Extension (BPRE) now called as Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMec) funded the two flatbed dryers in Lower Dimaya and East Migpulao.
The corn-on-cob dryer was installed in Lower Dimaya through the Diversified Farm Income Market Development Program of DA. Dinas town is generally a corn area and despite the aftermath of El Niño, Parawan was elated to see corn excellently growing even under coconut.
The turn-over of DA projects was held two days before Asoy bowed out as Dinas mayor for him to join the provincial board as most senior board member. He thanked Parawan for all the projects DA shared to his municipality.
For his part, Parawan appreciated Asoy’s brand of leadership which is consultative. “The teamwork of the local officials from the municipal level down to the barangays are instrumental for the success of these projects,” Parawan said.
With the various projects now being enjoyed by the residents, ZIADP regional focal person Virgie Atega is counting on the beneficiaries to maintain and sustain the projects. - BROUGHT TO YOU BY PAGADIAN EXPRESS
