JOINT OPERATIVES of City PNP, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force (PAIDTF) arrested two of the five suspects who robbed an armored van owned by the Banco de Oro (BDO) last July 19.
Police Chief Inspector Michael Palermo said the two suspects were nabbed during a hot pursuit operation two hours after the robbery incident.
Both Palermo and NBI District Director Eric Distor identified the two alleged suspects as Ireneo Rada and Junjun Cabando, a.k.a. Jr. Dumpa, who has a pending warrant of arrest for his involvement in a bank robbery in Butuan City.
Police investigation disclosed that the BDO armored van just came from collecting deposit from one of its clients and was about to park outside the bank located along F.S. Pajares Avenue when five armed men suddenly appeared and disarmed the security guards.
But the teller was able to run and ask help from the other security guards inside the bank, which resulted to an exchange of gun fires.
Palermo said that after receiving a bank alarm, he immediately sent policemen and informed the NBI and other law enforcement agencies that a robbery is in progress at BDO.
At the crime scene, police recovered a deformed slug of caliber .38 and two slugs of caliber .45 pistols. Tracing the escape route of the robbers, lawmen recovered the two shotguns and a trail of bloodstains near the robbers’ hideout in Bliss, Lenienza, this city leading to the arrest of Rada and Cabando.
Both suspects were arrested hiding at a rented house near the DA-Regional Office while their companions, a female, were able to elude arresting law enforcers.
Also recovered at the suspects’ hideout was the Honda XRM, used as one of the getaway vehicles, and a .38 caliber revolver.
It was later learned that Cabando sustained gunshot wounds in his stomach and right foot and he was brought to the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center (ZSMC) for treatment. – BROUGHT TO YOU BY PAGADIAN EXPRESS
