CITY MAYOR Samuel “Sammy” Co brought good news last Tuesday upon arrival in Pagadian City, saying he is now the vice president for Mindanao on the League of Cities in the Philippines (LCP). The LCP is an organization composed of the archipelago’s 121 member-cities represented by its respective chief executives. Co disclosed that by tradition, LCP’s election of new officers, held during its general assembly at the Century Park Sheraton Hotel in Pasay City last July 17, “is upon the anointment and whims of the President.”

“Kining pagdagan pagka-opisyal sa LCP, ang big points ani is the anointment of the president, of course adunay gamay’ng pabor if kapartido sila or dako ang pabor kung milaban ka sa presidente sa miaging eleksiyon,” Co disclosed.

The 44-year old mayor said that Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri and Mayor Oscar Rodriguez of San Fernando City won respectively as chairman and as president, under a so-called “reform ticket”.
The two other vice presidents are Mayors Allen Singson of Candon City for Luzon, Dan Lim of Tagbilaran City for Visayas.

Co said coveting his seat is a slightly daunting since Dipolog City Mayor Evelyn Uy and first termer Davao City Mayor Sarah Duterte both wanted to be vice president for Mindanao.

But the mayor said he had the upper hand since he is a third-termer and further up the ladder in terms of seniority and friendship with other mayors and so campaigning for votes was easy.

“Amigo na nako ang mga daan gawas ang bag-o pareha sa Ozamiz ug Dipolog. If modagan ka’g VP for Mindanao, kampanyahan man gyod nimo tanang mayor from Mindanao—mga 30 plus gyod,” Co said.
In the said election, Co said that all Mindanao mayors were “showing forces” but he still sees the need to consolidate more.

“Ang akong giingon sa mga Mindanao mayors, we need to solidify our group of mayors from Mindanao since for the last eight years of LCP, five presidents or chairman came from Luzon, three came from Visayas and nobody was elected from Mindanao,” he observed.

He said he challenged his colleagues that when somebody from Mindanao gets the highest official seat of LCP next elections, the island will have a strong voice with the President.
Likewise, Co added that with his position as VP for Mindanao, he will fight for the retention of Pagadian City as the regional center of Western Mindanao.

“Awayonon man gani gamay pero daghan tag mayors nga suod ni Presidente Aquino nga makatabang pod sila nato unsay problema. And of course natunong nga atong gipadaug si Noynoy syempre duna gyod nay reward,” he concluded. – BROUGHT TO YOU BY PAGADIAN EXPRESS

Unsa kahay plano ani ato Mayor nga last term na man niya, mao nagpa humot man ug ayo.

Sur.
